Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI’s)

•          Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA)

–        The daily nutrient intake level that meets the needs of 97% of healthy people in a particular stage of life and gender.

•          Adequate Intake (AI)

–        The daily nutrient intake level assumed to be adequate when scientific data is lacking to recommend a RDA

•          Estimated Average Requirements (EAR)

–        The daily nutrient intake estimated to meet the requirements of half of the healthy people in a particular life stage and gender group.  EAR values form the scientific basis for which the RDA’s are set.

•          Tolerable Upper Intake levels (UL)

–        The highest daily nutrient intake level that likely poses no risk of toxicity to nearly all healthy people in a particular life stage and gender group.

•          Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI)

– estimated amount of sweetener consumed daily over a lifetime w/o any adverse events
